Welcome.

We have a number of workshops in and around the Auckland region dedicated to teaching you how to use and get the best out of your DSLR camera. With a city the size of Auckland we have chosen a number of different locations that range from the Sculpture and Art trails of Matakana to the beauty of Cornwall park and its surrounding treasures, as well as discovering the stunning beaches and fauna of this fabulous city.

 

Who are the courses for?

These workshops are designed for the beginner to intermediate photographer, who want to know more about their equipment and how to create stunning photographs. By working in small groups (no larger than 8) with two instructors learning will be fast and fun.

 

What each course covers.

  1. How to use a DSLR camera or digital compact properly.
  2. Functions of your camera.
  3. Take the perfect shot, learn the art of composition and lighting.
  4. Aperture, shutter speed, depth of field, ISO settings, white balance and exposure.
  5. Work with filters and reflectors.
  6. When and how to use flash effectively.
  7. Lenses what to use and what to buy.
  8. Memory, file sizes, formats and storage.
  9. Portraiture, landscapes, still life, nature, motion, reportage.

 

Requirements.

  1. No prior photography knowledge.
  2. Digital DSLR or digital compact. We also do camera rental.
  3. Memory card.
  4. Tripods are not essential They can be hired.
  5. Charged camera batteries.
  6. Be prepared for any all weather conditions.

Brickbay Restuarant

Matakana Country Arts Trail.

 

Description.

The Glass House is a spectacular building cantilevered over a lake and the  perfectmeeting point for our group. Over morning coffee our photographers will run through equipment and focus on what the workshop will teach. The emphasis will be on taking images that are well composed and perfectly lit. Looking at landscapes, wild life and fauna examining patterns and texture and how to create a stunning image all of which will be seen along the 2 km trail (suitable for most ages and abilities).

Breaking for Lunch back at the Glass house gives the group the perfect opportunity to discuss their photographs and compare notes.

The afternoon work shop takes the group down to a secluded bay where time is spent on photographing seascapes and Portraiture. The use of tripods and reflectors as well as filters will be incorporated in this session.

 

Cornwall Park Auckland

Auckland City Historical Trail. 

 

Description.

Cornwall Park is renowned for its landscape design and wide variety of trees and plants, as well as a popular destination for Wedding photographers wanting stunning backdrops. This workshop will look at landscapes taking in scenery from One Tree Hill and the surrounding park. Over morning coffee our photographers will run through camera equipment and the agenda for the day. There will be a strong emphasis on Portraiture, landscapes and how to use reflectors and filters to achieve interesting affects.

Breaking for lunch back at the Cornwall Park restaurant the group will have ample opportunity to discuss photographs and compare notes.

The afternoon workshop takes the group to Auckland Heritage site of Highwic in Mount Albert, where we will have a guided tour of this beautiful house and its grounds; here our group will learn how to take the perfect image. Composition and lighting feature strongly in this section.

 

Auckland by the Sea.

 

Description.

The quaint village of Devonport with its colonial weatherboard houses and extinct volcanic Mounts is the perfect venue for our workshop. Meeting in the village we take a trip up a Mount Victoria where we will focus on landscape photography looking at what makes a good composition and how to work with reflectors and filters. Over morning coffee our photographers will run through equipment and the agenda for the day. Continuing on from the morning our photographers will cover the art of Portraiture with the use of fill flash and reflectors.

Breaking for lunch at McHugh's Restaurant the group will have ample opportunity to discuss photographs and compare notes.

The afternoon will have a strong emphasis on lighting when and how to use a flash. Learn how to compose the perfect image using the correct exposure and shutter speeds.
